EPW Research Foundation MYSORE CEMENTS Expansion Programme A PART of the Rs 1,400 crore S K Birla group, Mysore Cements, incorporated in 1958, has its plants in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, The company closed the financial year ended March 1995 with a turnover of Rs 294 crore, up by 18 per cent from Rs 249 crore in the previous year. Total income went up by 20 per cent from Rs 243 crore to Rs 291 crore. Better debt management saw the interest charges showing a 50 per cent drop from Rs 19 crore to Rs 10crore which was an important factor contributing to the increase in the net profit. Provision for depreciation increased marginally by 5 per cent. Aided by a zero tax provision like in the previous year, the company ended with a net profit of Rs 32 crore, up by 240 per cent from Rs 9 crore. Dividend has been maintained at 20 per cent with a view to conserving resources for the expansion programmes currently being pursued.
