Female-Supported Households-A Continuing Agenda for Kerala Model

Barbara H Chasin The highly acclaimed development model of Kerala has left out certain groups, women being one of them. This article based on a survey of female-supported households in Nadur village indicates that despite lower wages and concentration in the lowest paying jobs, women achieve economic parity with their male counterparts. If this performance level is to be maintained then redistribution programmes in the state need to be consolidated and decentralised rural employment made further available.
