UTTAR PRADESH-In a Debt Trap

Failure to generate revenues and cut non-productive, especially administrative, expenditure has led UP into a debt trap. UTTAR PRADESH is one of the poorest states but appears to be very reluctant to mobilise resources for faster development or to take measures to increase the efficiency of investments. Per capita tax revenue in the state is almost one-third of what it is in the richer states even backward states like M P and Rajasthan have higher per capita tax revenue.
