Convention on Rights of the Child
Convention on Rights of the Child INDIA'S accession to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in December 1992 was an important step towards initiating accountability of the Indian state towards the survival, protection and development of its children. The Indian government is expected to submit its report on the measures it has adopted which give effect to the rights outlined in the Convention to the Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva in December 1994. The process of reporting to the Committee provides an opportunity to NGOs to formulate an alternative report based on their experiences on the situation of children in India.
