US's Negative Role THE International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank have just concluded another of their joint semi-annual meetings. In recent years the annual and semi-annual meetings of the Bretton Woods institutions have been increasingly dominated by three factors: the interests of the industrialised countries; the stellar performance of the east Asian economics and the attempt to impose the alleged lessons of their experience on the rest of the developing world in Asia, Africa and Latin America; and the intransigence of the US in regard to practically every aspect of the functioning of the world financial and trading systems and in particular the roles of the multilateral institutions.
