EPW Research Foundation KIRLOSKAR CUMMINS Import Substitution Drive KIRLOSKAR CUMMINS, a manufacturer of internal combustion engines, particularly diesel engines, reciprocating piston engines, gas turbine engines and gasoline engines, has once again come up trumps on the export front. It has bagged the Engineering Export Promotion Council's coveted All-India Top Exporter Shield for the third consecutive year. While exports grew by 22 per cent from Rs 50.5 crore in 1991-92 to Rs 61.6 crore in 1992-93, imports were reduced by 25.2 per cent, indicative of the company's thrust towards indigenisation of components which has resulted in saving $ 2.5 mn worth of foreign exchange. Its collaborator, Cummins Engine of the US, has increased its stake to 51 per cent.
