INGERSOLL-RAND (INDIA)-Larger Exports

It has secured an order of 100 tractors from Sri Lanka valued at Rs 3 crore against stiff international competition. The Commander range of vehicles introduced by the company has been well accepted in the market as has beep the Armada for which the company received some 14,000 bookings. The company plans to introduce several new models including a 22-seater passenger bus, Mahindra Aero, a petrol version of the Armada aimed at the Gulf market, and Chrysler's Cherokee model (the feasibility report of which has been completed). The company also plans to introduce a higher horsepower engine (5O-70hp) for its tractors for which it is considering tying up with Klock ner-Humbordt Deutz. It is also planning to enter the aviation business. A new company, Mahindra Sted Service Centre, has been formed in which its two Japanese steel business associates, namely, Mitsubishi Corporation and Nissho Iwai Corporation, will together have a 39 per cent stake in the total Rs 4.7 crore equity while the rest will be held by Mahindra & Mahindra.
