On Viability of Rural Branches

C L Dadhich THE piece 'Myth of Non-viability of Rural Branches' (EPW, May 1) is an interesting study of one of the public sector banks, based on the actual data for the accounting year 1991-92 drawn from balance ;sheet and profit and loss statement of the branches of the bank. One needs some clarifications on some of the points raised in the piece, since they are not in line with the general perceptions about the working of the banking system, in particular of rural banking.
