Lame-Duck Government and MNCs' Challenge BM 7he siren song of multilateralism in world trade and economic exchanges is being used to persuade the developing countries to open up their economics to the goods, services and capital of the developed countries even as the latter feverishly raise protectionist walls for themselves, set up restrictive trading blocks and mount bilateral pressures. However, the minority Narasimha Rao government, its credibility thoroughly eroded, is in no position to provide an effective riposte to these challenges.
