Challenge Facing Secularists

l LIKE to think I am a secular Indian and like all other secular Indians I have been greatly distressed by the demolition of the Babri Masjid at Ayodhya and the subsequent communal carnage in different parts of the country. Like others I also feel that continuing confrontation between Hindus and Muslims will be an unmitigated disaster for both the communities and the country. It must be remembered that there are more than 100 million Muslims in India and that they are all Indians and do not belong to any other country. It is not possible to wish away these people.
