Industrialisation in Third World Case of Indian Machine Tools Enakshi Dua This article argues that the apparent inability of Indian manufacturers to penetrate the markets of advanced capitalist countries must be understood within the broader context of the politics surrounding the internationalisa- tion of production. Through a case study of Indian machine tools manufacturers between 1965 and 1985 the article examines the political dynamics underlying the loss of export markets in machine tools to South Asian NICs.
