The research and development division developed application-oriented products like cold box resins for foundry application in steel plants. Phenolic-melamine moulding materials developed during the year for miniature circuit breaker applications involving high arching resulted in steady orders. The introduction of low cost paper phenolic copper clad laminates for non-critical applications by using indigenous raw materials and improvement in the quality of FR4 glass epoxy clad laminates were contributions made by R and D activities. Thermal insulation foam based on phenolic resin was also developed by in-house R and D efforts. The heritage surface textures introduced by the company also found acceptance in the market. The company's future plan of action involves efforts to stabilise P-F shell resin by using hot coating techniques, upgrade all existing products and develop components. Expenditure on R and D formed 0.60 per cent of net turnover.
