Opportunities in Road Transport

Opportunities in Road Transport TRANSPORT CORPORATION OF INDIA (TCI) registered a growth of 15.6 per cent in net revenue during the year ended March 31. While the operating profits improved by 17,6 per cent, gross profits recorded an increase of only 12,2 per cent mainly due to a sharp increase of 27.5 per cent in interest charges. Profits before tax rose by 26.3 per cent, though profits after tax showed a steep decline of 45.1 per cent as a result of adjustment of the loss of Rs 109 lakh on sale of the Bangalore Wire Rod Mills with effect from April 1, 1990 and a tax of Rs 23 lakh relating to the previous year. The increase in the effective tax rate from 33.6 per cent to 38.8 per cent also had an effect on net profits.
