An Analysis of the United Nations Law of the Sea Conference and Convention Sumit Majumdar The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea which involved the participation of more than 150 countries, represents a major advance in international co-operation in the treaty making process and underscores the utility of an international institutional framework in providing a negotiating forum. This paper describes the history of the negotiations and analyses the reasons for the success of the negotiations.
