The danger, as I said, is latent; potential danger does exist, and that danger can only be heightened by careless and loose thinking on our own part. There is need for statesmanship and vision; there is need for a far- sighted foreign policy; there is need for diplomatic initiatives of a new type; there is need for new perceptions in this context. Pakistan and India need to learn to live wit! each other peacefully; and this realisation has to permeate the so-called hawks in both countries. For nothing would please the armaments manufacturers around the world more than to find a burgeoning market for their otherwise useless defence materiel. We need to ensure that Pakistani and Indian lives are not lost in the interest of keeping up employment and growth in the US.
