ON 1.10.1989, a woman activist of the Kashtakari Sangathana, Dahanu was gang raped by eight men, four of whom were iden tified by her as cadres of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The rape victim is an ex- student of the Nirmala Niketan and has a masters degree in Social Work. This incident took place when 25 Kashtakari Sangathana members had gone to Manmohadi village for a meeting. On the way, they were attacked by a CPl(M) mob and four Kashtakari Sangathana activists including the rape victim were taken to Aine village and kept overnight in the house of the police patil. The rape vie tim and her three male colleagues were severely beaten up, she was molested and even physically and verbally abused. This news appeared in the Times of India on 5.10.1989 and in the Indian Express on 6.10-1989.
