EVEN the government cannot any longer ignore the evidence of a marked slowing down of the rate of growth of industrial production. The 'quick estimate' of the index of industrial production for June, released a few days back, reveals no more than a marginal rise in production, for the third month in succession, over the corresponding month of last yean liking the three months together, making up as they do the first quarter of the current financial year, the index showed a rise of barely 1.8 per cent over the first quarter of the last fiscal year.
