Guaranteeing Title to Land-A Preliminary Study

A Preliminary Study D C Wadhwa The present records-of-rights in land in India are fiscal in nature. The person shown on the records as responsible for paying land-revenue for a particular piece of land is presumed to be the proprietor of that land unless it is proved otherwise. Thus title to land is only incidental. This paper argues why it is necessary to change over to a system of registration of title to land and discusses, on the basis of a review of the arrangements prevailing in a number of other countries, how such a system can be introduced in India.
