India-Nepal Discord Anirudha Gupta Several international conventions as well as the non-aligned movement have accepted the principle that landlocked countries must be provided free access to and from the sea and freedom of transit in order to help them overcome their economic backwardness. This supports Nepal's argument for a separate treaty for transit, which it says is a necessary permanent condition for trade and must be a long-term arrangement.
