ASSAM-Setback to Isolationist Perspective

The Conspiracy Card WITH the judgment delivered this week by the Supreme Court in the appeals of the three persons earlier convicted in the Indira Gandhi assassination case, the curtain has perhaps been rung down on the case. The Supreme Court has confirmed the death sentences passed on two of the accused but has ordered the release of the third, Balbir Singh, who too had been awarded the death penalty by the lower courts, In effect it has been held by the court, on basis of the evidence presented to it, that the assassination of Indira Gandhi was the work of just three persons, the two who have been sentenced to death and Beam Singh who was shot dead on the spot, immediately after the assassination, by security personnel.
