Police Unrest THE police unrest in Gujarat which has been simmering for some months now "has erupted in several towns and cities, particularly Ahmedabad, and, as we go to press, in Baroda. More than 116 of the 426 police stations have been affected, and a large section of the 70,000-strong police force have deserted their posts. The government has officially disbanded the police unions and has arrested some of the leaders.
