Left Intellectuals and 'the System' THE 'core' of Ashok Rudra's perspectives piece ('Luxury-Led Growth Strategy and Its Beneficiaries', July 2), that there is indeed an incomes policy and that it is geared towards cutting out a very small enclave in the economy which would be provided with more and more purchasing power in order to provide an ever expanding 'home market' for consumer durables, is accepted. I expected Rudra to provide a perspective on his central thesis instead of which he got side-tracked and devoted a large part of his article to LTC, medical reimbursement and other 'perks' of government employees and teachers, all of which is well known.
