Social Forestry in Karnataka THE article 'Social Forestry in Karnataka' (June 13) is misleading. The national commission on agriculture has emphasised that forestry should produce adequate industrial wood including raw-materials required for rayon industries It has advised the use of eucalyptus as a fast growing species. Social forestry is expected to meet not only the needs of the people in the local area, but also expected to produce forest products for meeting the requirements of the people and of industries. The recommendations made to abolish wealth tax on trees was to help farm forestry in this regard.
