Domestic Service in China

Elisabeth J Croll While the use of domestic service has long been in practice in China, especially among senior level cadres and intellectuals in cities like Beijing, the recent spread of this form of service and its institutionalization reflects both the State's desire to reduce the burden of household work of women and the changes in civil society, especially in familial responsibilities and individual aspirations.
