PRICES Lower Inflation Rate Brings Little Relief to People (By a Special Correspondent) JUDGING by the trend in the wholesale price index, there was a reduction in the intensity of inflationary pressures in the last five months to December 1985, the latest period for which the details of wholesale prices are available. The wholesale price index registered a decline of 2.7 per cent in a period of 21 weeks beginning from the peak level touched in the first week of August 1985, following the usual seasonal decline pattern. In the result the general index during the year 1985 recorded a rise of 5.3 per cent which was a shade lower than that of 5.7 per cent recorded in 1984. The abatement in the inflationary pressure emanated mainly from the Industrial Raw Materials group whereas the other groups exhibited a rising trend.
