NEW DELHI Economists' Concern at Economic Policy Drift BM THE invitation of the West Bengal government to a group of economists to meet and analyse what many "regard as the new economic policy or more appropriately the new direction of economic policy of the Union government would appear to have been timely. The outcome of the meeting turned out to be most useful The 29 economists who met in Calcutta for three days (October 10, 11 and 12) concluded their deliberations with a unanimous statement which challenged the currently fashionable official policy shibboleths and presented alternative policy approaches which they considered to be "immediately feasible".
