Tea Plantations, 1900-1930 Rana Pratap Behal By the end of the nineteenth century the Assam Valley witnessed the growth of a plantation structure woven around the obnoxious indenture system. Within this structure the workers were subjected to a physical and social control which severely restricted their mobility within and outside the plantations and isolated them from the outside world.
