Current Economic Policy of Government and Alternatives
September 7, 1985 Current Economic Policy of Government and Alternatives (By a Special Correspondent) A NATIONAL CONVENTION on the current economic policy of the government and alternatives, was organised at New Delhi on August 31 and September 1. The convention held at the Indian Institute of Public Administration drew participants from university departments and research institutions from different parts of the country. The focus was on the liberalisation' drive of the government, which was seen to be an integral part of the policy prescription of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank for developing countries. There were four sessions, the first three being devoted to presentation of papers and discussion, while the last was primarily for the evolution of an outline approach addressed to the specific means available within the present socio-economic structure for resolving the most immediate problems facing the Indian economy.
