communal massacre case were acquitted by the Kalyan Special Court (Riots) Judge K D Kochargaonkar on August 20. At least 26 persons had been burnt alive on May 19, 1984 in Ansaribaugh in what was the most gruesome episode of the communal riots in Bhiwandi near Bombay last year. The acquittal of those charged with the crime once again confirms that conviction and punish ment are exceptions in respect of those indulging communal rioting and killing.
