Business Cement Industry Change of Tune

SINCE the introduction of partial decon-trol in February 1982, the cement industry has recorded an impressive growth in its installed capacity as well as output. The installed capacity has increased from 28 million tonnes in 1981-82 to 44 million tonnes in 1984-85, a growth rate of 19 per cent per annum over the three-year period. The output of cement increased from about 21 million tonnes in 1981-82 to 27 million tonnes in 1983-84 and it is ex-pected to reach a level of 32.5 million ton-nes in 1984-85.
