Judging by the existing levels of productivity and the prices of different farm commodities, the cultivation of oilseeds is much less profitable than other crops, This explains the gradual locational shift from more productive to less productive areas under oilseeds. More expansion of irrigation facilities is unlikely to reverse this process. No significant change in the cropping pattern is likely unless the cultivation of oilseeds becomes more profitable.
