November 5-12, 1983 Indira Gandhi seems, to have succeeded in detaching the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M G Ramachandran, from, the opposition fold; the AIADMK did not attend the second and third opposition conclaves held at New Delhi and Srinagar, respectively. There are stray signs that the Telugu Desam leader N T Rama Rao, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, may also keep away from the opposition if his own ambitions are satisfactorily accommodated by the Congress(I). Vigorous efforts were made by the Congress(I) in September and October to topple the Janata Party government in Karnataka. And now the attention of Indira Gandhi and her son seems to have shifted towards pulling down the National Conference government in Jammu and Kashmir.
