Zambia Kaunda Continues ZAMBIA'S President Kenneth Kaun- da's re-election to the presidency for a fifth term last month-end is by no means surprising. Considering the country's constitutional status as a one-party state (instituted in 1972 to quash all oppositional threats to the government, such as that from the former Vice-President Simon Kapwe- pwe's United Progressive Party) and The absence of other presidental candidates, such an outcome was inevitable. What is surprising, however, is that KK (as President Kaunda is popularly known) should have rolled in more than 90 per cent of the vote.
