Alcohol Glut-By the States Will
January 22, 1983 Alcohol Glut By the States' Will THE present alcohol glut and its several side-effects are the consequence of actions by the states in a matter that evidently needs Central regulation. Distilleries producing molasses-based alcohol have been facing an unprecedented accumulation of alcohol stock, even as less than 60 per cent of their capacity is being utilised. Their storage tanks are full. And there have been prolonged shutdowns. The distilleries, therefore, have not been lifting enough molasses (from which alcohol is made) for the past several months. Consequently, molasses have been accumulating with sugar factories much beyond permissible levels.
