Business Sericulture Threat from Import Replenishment

INDISCRIMINATE imports of raw silk using entitlements against exports may scuttle the ambitious develop-ment programmes of the Indian seri-culture industry. The outgoing chair-man of the Central Silk Board, B Basaviah, has argued that the recent increase from 10 to 20 per cent in replacement benefit granted to silk t;oods exporters clearly threatens the interests of the domestic sericulture industry, at a time when it may well be on the verge of a breakthrough.
