 the distillery industry and the alcohol- based chemical units. Although the Centre had appealed to the states for their co-operation in quick movement of surplus molasses to deficit regions in order to maximise alcohol production by ensuring gainful utilisation of all available molasses and optimum use of installed distilling capacity, there is no improvement in the movement of this item from the surplus to the deficit states. Evidently, the linkage committee appointed by the Union Department of Chemicals and Fertilisers to monitor the movement of molasses from surplus to deficit states, has not been able to bring about any noticeable change in the situation. Apparently, the surplus states are reluctant to pass on the excess molasses to other states for revenue considerations.
