Revived Interest in Fertilisers

Revived Interest in Fertilisers Hansavivek TATA CHEMICALS has revived its interest in fertilisers and has registered with the Central goverment its positive interest in a large gas-based nitrogenous fertiliser complex in UP and a phos- phatic fertiliser complex in Saurashtra. It has formed a small wholly owned subsidiary under the name Tata Fertilisers' which will in due course be spun off as a separate corporate entity in the event of these fertiliser projects ma- legalising. In its traditional line, the company obtained a 'letter of intent' for expansion by nearly 66 per cent of the chlor-causlic facilities, but its application for expansion of BHC interlinked with the chlor-caustic expansion, was turned down. In view of this the company re-worked the scheme for utilisation of chlorine, co-produced with caustic soda, and also decided to upgrade and modernise its chlor-caustic facilities. An application has been made to seek extension of the letter of intent' for chlor-caustic expansion.
