Misplaced Militancy

THIS has reference to AS's dispatch from Orissa entitled 'Government Employers Divided' (August 8). The government has quite calmly outwitted the trade unionists whipping up the secretariat staff into agitation. In fact, the employees of banks, insurance companies and the secretariat have lost all public goodwill. Day in and day out anyone going into the secretariat is harassed by clerks and peons alike. Most of the secretariat employees are corrupt, overbearing and arrogant. Many of them also indulge in benami business deals and have built houses in expensive areas of Bhuhaneswar which are the envy of all honest government officers.
