Fatal Fascinations

IT is our fatal fascination for dynasties, I think, which persuades our newspaper chains, even those considered 'hostile', to give Rajiv Gandhi the kind of political play reserved for his mother. The opening of Parliament was one such occasion. If there was any other interesting visual, it was totally lost on the photographers. As for the editors, they are content to write their weekly of bi-weekly sermons and to pack the correspondence columns with 'reactions', but have little control over the content of their papers.
