But it is true that by the middle of July most oil mills in the state had stopped crushing groundnut and, according to some reports from Saurashtra, only one in ten mills was operating. This was two weeks before the effective rate of import duty on edib'e oil was raised to 150 per cent, a measure which, the trade claims, added on several helpings to the price of oil in the market and came on top of the end-of-season, pre-festival spurt in prices.
