Congress Party-Return of the Prodicals

Pune on May 1, that the process of the unification of all Congressmen, including those who were at present in parties like the Lok Dal and the Janata, had already begun, are not in the least surprising; they reflect the deeply felt desire on the part of many Congressmen for a return to the fold. If Jagjivan Ram, Devaraj Urs, Y B Chavan and other leaders have expressed differences in public about the unity moves, these are only a reflection of their anxiety that others might steal a march over them and negotiate independently the terms of their entry into the r)arty. It is not accidental that a Congress (U) leader should have sponsored the resolution in the Lok Sabha to rescind the expulsion of Indira Gandhi in December 1978 by the Sixth Lok Sabha, or that the party's leader in the Lok Sabha, Y B Chavan, should have been absent from the Lok Sabha on Thursday when the motion was debated, put to vote and carried.
