their present stand, the AASU and the AAGSP may face the danger of getting more and more isolated from the general stream of democratic movements taking place all over the country. This in its turn may create a favourable situation for the ruling classes to actively intervene with a view to crushing the genuine aspirations of the Asamiya peoples by all sorts of repressive measures. In fact, there are enough indications of such a possibility, and if this policy of the reactionary ruling classes succeeds, it will not be confined in future to Assam alone, It will have far-reaching impact on all democratic movements throughout the country. Those who put their faith on state repressive actions for solving the Assam problem should be aware of this danger. As a matter of fact, the Assam issue Is a direct challenge to all defenders of peace and democracy. Playing majority against minority communities and vice versa, has always been a typical tactics of the reactionary ruling classes for curbing peoples' democratic movements. The AASU and AAGSP leaders should therefore try to sort out their demands and rearrange them so that they may get active and direct support from all supporters and defenders of peace and democracy in the country.
