Of course, compromises would be inevitable in practice. One form of such compromise might be that the existing set-up in these countries would be supported. This would imply that all the military rulers would receive another lease of life, with US economic aid and renewed military supplies. At the same time, the Nicaraguan government might also not be disturbed so long as the coalition lasts. In El Salvador too the US may oppose a military takeover.
