All-Round Growth Hansavivek EAST INDIA HOTELS, the largest hotel chain in India, is preparing itself for the decade ahead. The extention of Oberoi Towers in Bombay is nearing completion and it is expected that the first phase mil be operational soon, and the second phase in 1981. The first phase of the renovation of Oberoi Grand, Calcutta, has been completed and the second phase is in progress. The new wing at Oberoi Palace, Srinagar, is in operation. The new flight kitchen at Palam airport, New Delhi, has been completed and the company has secured several new contracts from international airlines. The company has planned to give a fresh look to Oberoi Intercontinental, New Delhi, with substantial renovation and refurnishing in 1981, Plans and specifications for the renovation of Oberoi Mount Everest, Darjee- ling, have been completed and actual work will commerce later this year. Apart from the existing operations; the management is making a feasibility study of the main cities where new hotels are needed. In order to meet the requirements of skilled and trained personnel, it is intended to further strengthen the Hotel School. To augment the existing overseas offices, Mercury Travels (India), the wholly owned subsidiary, has opened sales offices in Frankfurt and New York. The company is also expanding its sales activities in India and has opened two more sales offices in Hyderabad and Bangalore.
