EUROPE Paris Conference of Communist Parties A TWO-DAY closed door meeting of communist and workers' parties of Europe took place in Paris on April 28-29. The conference was hosted jointly by the French Communist Party (PCF) and the Polish Workers' Party. Out of the 31 communist and workers' parties invited, 22 participated, of which two, the Belgian and the Swiss, sent only observers, The more prominent Eurocommunist parties such as the Italian (PCI) and the Spanish (PCE) refused to participate, which in its turn led to the British, Dutch, Swedish, San Marino and Icelandic parties along with Yugoslavia and Rumania, staying away from the Conference.
