January 19, 1980 Uttar Pradesh: Rigging in Practice Anil Coomar Maheshwari JANUARY 3 and 6 were two ignoble days in the election history of western Uttar Pradesh when all norms of 'free and fair' polling were deliberately trampled upon by party workers and supporters of the Lok Dal in their unabashed effort to help their candidates to win. The electoral fraud, perpetrated practically in every constituency of this agriculturally prosperous region, also found its echoes in the camps of the Congress(I) and Janata party whose workers too did not lag behind in resorting to foul vote-catching devices.
