The Election and After Romesh Thapar WE are still in the 'reeling', 'staggering', 'grovelling' phase following the spectacular election triumph of Indira Gandhi and the network that organised the voting, If the so-called wave was only recorded in the sampling of various pre-election polls, it is because actually only .some 42 per cent of 55 per cent of the registered voters used their ballots for the Congress(l) and because in certain critical areas like Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar the combined Janata-Lok Dal vote continued larger than that of the Cong- ress(I). As other details of the vote are presented, many interesting contradictions will energe, including the RSS rift with the Janata party in many areas.
