Assam Search for an Agent

WITH the collapse of the talks between the Centre and the leaders of the agita-tion against 'foreign nationals' in Assam, and the resumption of the agitation by the AASU and AAGSP, it was inevitable that the Centre should see yet another way out of the predicament of its own making by aiding and abetting in the formation of a 'popular' ministry in Assam under the Congress (I). The breakdown in the talks was not in the least unexpected and was even inevi-table; neither the Centre nor the leaders of the agitation in Assam are capable of agreeing on a just solution to the problem.
