It is also difficult to accept the observation of the author that the stock market in India is "short-sighted" be- cause of the overriding importance of dividend and the very weak influence of growth factor despite the empirical pointers in that direction. Large-scale transactions taking place in leading scrips with yields even below five per cent indicate that considerations other than dividend, mainly growth, do play an equally important, if not greater, role in the determination of prices.
