Scars of Recession THE State Industrial and Investment 'Corporation of Maharashtra (SICOM), generally regarded as the pace-setter among state investment corporations, claims that despite the country-wide slow down in industrial growth it has improved upon its record of attracting industrial units to the developing areas of Maharashtra. According to its annual report for 1977-78, released this week, as many as 351 units, entailing a capital investment of Rs 97 crores, were committed to these areas in 1977- 78, compared to 243 units in the previous year. In all 2,763 units had been committed to SlCOM's areas of operation till the end of March 1978; of these, 1,826 units with a capital investment of Rs 379 crores were in production 225 units with an investment of Rs 143 crores were under construction.
